I’ve not been to Chicago…well except for a ridiculously quick drive by Wrigley stadium, running late on the way to a 🎶gig in Lansing, MI. (We forgot to factor in time change!) You’ve whetted my appetite for the city and myriad ways of deep dish pizza!

What a fun start to your adventure! The food looks amazing and it looks like you got lucky with the weather. How fun to meet Jolene in person. My dad’s family is from Chicago so it has a special place in my heart.

Thanks, Amie! I have a sentimental attachment to Boston too, having spent my college years near there! I’d love to go back to visit. More “kicks on Rt. 66 coming” soon—now in the rain!

Thanks for this wonderful tour of Chicago, my favorite U.S. city. My husband and I used to go there often when we lived in Detroit. But it’s been too long last visit. Hoping to make it this year, if only to visit Jolene!

Oh you should visit again, Domenica! I think Chicago may now be my favorite city—and Jolene is really the best host and guide ever!

Hey, I dig your postcard from the city of the big shoulders: the pictures, the words, the food. I felt as if I were there with you. Such a cool piece. Thank you.

And then, by chance, you included the photo of @Jolene Handy’s semolina gnocchi: a culinary coincidence as I had been talking about the gnocchi all’s Romana my mother used to make with @Portia on her Substack about italian food.

I can’t attach a Chicago photo to a reply, but might put one up on Notes.

More postcards…please.

Thanks, Evelyn! It was, and we lucked out on the weather there. It has gotten warmer (and rainier!) as we've headed south. Jolene was definitely the belle of Chicago!😉 We've got many more miles--and a lot more photos, videos and posts to go--before we reach the end of the road!

What a fun start to your big adventure! I've never been in Chicago, but I hope to see it some day. Curiously, a lot of Austrians that I met while living in Vienna HAVE visited it and really liked it.

It’s such a wonderful place, Clarice—SO much to see and do. We just scratched the surface. It’s fun to be a tourist in your own country. I hope you get a chance to visit one day—and I’d like to go back. Thanks so much for the comment.

Love to you and to Tillie the Cat too! It was such a great pleasure to spend time with you at Torchio and have a chance to visit your home. One day I hope to return the favor should you ever find yourself in L.A.! The view can’t match yours, but the beach is just a mile down the road. 😘
