What a wonderful post, Ruth! Loved every line of it. So reminiscent of San Francisco. Though I didn't grow up there, my husband did, and he's often told me stories about the wharf (more about Dungensess than sour dough but still) and how his uncle took him there and they'd have the shrimp wrapped in newspaper.

Such a great post! I also grew up going to Fisherman’s Wharf - there was a Snoopy store there and we’d get to pick out a Snoopy ornament for our Christmas tree. Or maybe that store was at Pier 39? I love that you named your starter after your mom.

What a wonderful way to memorialize Mom. She is smiling in heaven now!

Thanks, Michael! I just saw your comment. I'd like to think Mom was smiling in heaven. I hope so! After almost 21 years, I still miss her!

Great writing and info Ruth! I may try making a new starter that way (still have a wheat and a rye in the fridge). You are a voice of hope and sanity during this crazy time - thank you!!!
