Agreed. Such a magical place. I loved going through Arches two days in a row. First by myself and then the next day with Chris, who was camping while I stayed in a motel. It was 90 some degrees and I couldn't believe how much water I drank. Everytime I took a bottle of water out of the cooler, I added another one in.
So like our experience, Patricia, except nobody camped. But hiking when the temperature is so high is new to us. I’d really love to return when it’s cooler, in fall or spring, and go for longer. There’s so much we didn’t see!
What a trip! Thank you, Ruth, I am going to linger over your words and the photos, loved your visit to the Palace! I’ve got wanderlust after reading this! xx
Thanks for taking the trip with me—virtually—Jolene! Hoping to fill in a few more details in my next “postcard.” In every place we’ve wished for more time. I guess that’s how it is when you travel. Just as you’re leaving, you realize what you missed.
Kayenta is close abx rather inexpensive if uncharming motel chains. There’s a Sonic too where we once fed a stray dog a burger and later helped a rescue round him up lol
Thanks for mentioning the cheaper option of Kayenta. What good-hearted, dog lovers you guys are! We saw a few pups looking as pooped from the heat as the people.
Thanks for taking me on this part of your journey while I sipped my Sunday morning coffee! I have been to the Grand Canyon and Sedona, but Utah and the sites you visited are all new to me. Wonderful photos too, Ruth!
Thanks so much, Vicki! We didn't manage to get to the Grand Canyon or Sedona this time around, though we've visited in the past. What's striking is how many natural wonders there are to see!
Big Nose Kate had lesser known siblings Really Big Nose Kate (the two easily told apart for obvious reasons) and Pretty Normal But Perhaps A Shade Small Mouth Jimmy. And I'd have challenged your guide when he said Indy crawled through that hole in Big Hogan's arch. Indy didn't crawl through any hole in any ceiling in Raiders and certainly not in the snake scene. He was lowered through a rectangular opening in the ceiling of the "Ark Room" and lowered to a dirt floor full of non-accurate (for the region) snakes.
I stand corrected, Crowden! And I appreciate the descriptions of Kate's possible siblings! I wonder if it's recorded anywhere what she thought of the nickname? Undoubtedly she gave her detractors a piece of her mind (or worse). Since I wasn't as familiar with the scene from "Raiders" as I might have been, I didn't really check on Mr. Cowboy's claim, but I read that other guides seem to have worked this piece of movie lore into their talks about the Big Hogan cave.
I think you’ve hit on it, Crowden. The guides know a lot of lore and what they don’t know, they undoubtedly spin to entertain credulous guests--like yours truly!
Loving your trip. Prescott is one of our favorite places.
Thanks, Sally! We loved Prescott and can’t wait to return!

Lots of sad tired strays in the area poor babies - didn’t spot any cats or I might have brought them home haha. Love your piece!

Wow. Looks like an amazing trip! You really capture the places in photos and words so beautifully, Ruth.
Thanks, Julia!
It all sounds like a magical trip filled with beauty..
Thanks, Judy!
Loved this, just wished for more!
Thanks, Donna! More will be coming in future "postcards." I feared to bore the reader, but there's really a lot to tell.

Perhaps they were conflating some other movie making in the area or just spinning a yarn, something not out of keeping in "the Old West"!

I’m enjoying your travelogue so far, Ruth. Anxious to see what further treats lie ahead!
Thanks, Amie! It's been quite a trip, though at ever stop I wish for more time to see what I'm missing. Oh well, there's always next time!
