I never heard of it, much less visited ,when I lived in LA (okay, not LA, the Inland Empire... Yeah. Riverside) but then downtown was a bit scary. Impressive that Langers has survived and thrived. I'll add it to my list! Love a good family restaurant story (Joe's Stone Crab in Miami Beach, which I've also never visited, has a super story, too, and I live in hope of getting there one day!) Thanks for your 1997 article. Sobering to realize I was already gone to GA by then.
Thanks, Annette! I hope you get to visit Langer’s one day and that it survives another 25 years--uncertain since there’s no obvious successor. It’s still in a bit of an iffy area, but we never have felt unsafe. Sadly, a shocking amount of LA real estate is becoming a tent and trailer encampment for the homeless, including parts of the posh Westside. Housing, gas and food prices aren’t helping one little bit! Hope you get to Miami and tell us all about Joe’s Stone Crab!
How wonderful for this long running business to have remained in the family. It doesn't happen very often today. It's a great story, Ruth, especially since you've reported on two milestone anniversaries.
Thanks, Vicki! It’s all the more remarkable because such delis are a vanishing “species” here in LA, as well as elsewhere. It would be something if Langer’s hangs on for future milestones like its 80th and beyond. Fingers crossed.
Great piece Ruth!! Makes us want to check out our local steamed pastrami deli here soon!! I love the history of Langers!! Very interesting!
Thanks, Mindy! Wish we could all go visit soon!❤️
We are going!! Now I know writing is in your blood and history, your a professional writer!
Thank you again,
Maggie
Thanks so much, Maggie! Trying to live up to that very kind description! 😉
My mouth is watering. Thanks for a great read!
Thanks so much, Rena! Wouldn’t it be great if we all could go there one day?💕

Oh my God, I’m drooling! Great writing and reporting on this delicious anniversary, Ruth. Pastrami cheese fries? I’m in! Have a great weekend! ❤️
Thanks, Jolene! Those fries are pretty amazing! One bite is enough to clog your arteries for a week!😋
I’ll risk it! 🥪 😂
