Once again I am late reading this post. Sorry 😞 but better late than never. I agree with everyone—your photos are always so nice, and convinces me to put Montana on my places to visit. I went to Idaho once but I wasn’t super impressed; maybe I just went to the wrong place. At any rate, Yellowstone is one of those “places I must visit before I die” kind of places. Thanks for highlighting it, Ruth! 👏🏻

Thanks for reading, Hoang! No apologies are necessary. I'm "late" to reading so many posts, including yours sometimes. I'd chalk it up to traveling, but sometimes life just gets in the way. I always enjoy them, even when I get to them days after they were posted.

So glad you enjoyed the photos. There are some really beautiful parts of Idaho, including the area we visited on the other side of the Tetons from the park. Every state has its good and bad points. Idaho also has the Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene region in the north, which are gorgeous areas to see. Yellowstone is one of the Earth's wonders, of course. We didn't spend enough time there--but I could say that about almost everywhere we've visited!

I’m salivating over the huckleberry ice cream, one of my all-time favorites. Keep the summer travelogues coming, Ruth! You’ll have time this fall to cook…

Yes, we really love huckleberry ice cream, as you can see from the several posts I've written on it! I was quite surprised to find it as prevalent in June, several months before huckleberry season, as in August and September when the berries are ripe. It seems that every creamery or bakery worth its salt (or sugar!) hoards them in the freezer to meet the year-round demand. ... More travelogues coming. As you say, I've got the fall to cook, my preference anyway in hot weather. Thanks as always for your comments and encouragement.❤️

It looks like such a beautiful place - quite the contrast to Sicily. And Jeff’s breakfast is huge - it would keep you going all day!

Thanks for your comment, Julia. You're right about Jeff's breakfast. These kinds of meals originally fueled someone who worked all day on a farm and needed those kinds of calories, not lazy vacationers buzzing through in their cars and hiking a couple of miles before lunch!

Thanks, Jolene! I love the hat too—just don’t try to make him ride a horse or rope a calf!🐎😆

Delightful! To our shame we've yet to make it to either Montana or Wyoming, Ruth. Drawn a blank with Sabrina on a Chicken Fried Steak recipe 😂

Thanks, Marco! It’s really is gorgeous country. I hope you get a chance to visit someday. There is a lot of lighter, more sophisticated fare we didn’t try. It just seems this kind of food was what fueled the miners, farmers and railroad entrepreneurs who built these towns—though not the indigenous tribes who were here first. Thanks for asking Sabrina if she knew a chicken-fried steak recipe. I’ll be doing some more research on that.

Wonderful, expansive scenery and scrumptious food finds! Thank you for sharing, Ruth! I'm glad that no one was hurt during that road wash-out.

Thanks, Vicki! It’s been a fun, if fattening experience! It’s been eye-opening to learn from the locals how the collapse of a single road can overnight lead to worries about the collapse of this fragile, tourist-dependent economy. I hope they find a solution soon.

I enjoyed reading about your Sicily trip, it looked like you had so much fun. I also enjoy your US travels and can't wait to travel to some of the places you've written about. Armchair travel is just the best!

Thank you, Gayla! I agree about armchair travels. I’ve enjoyed traveling along virtually on some of your recent trips to book festivals in Savannah and Texas. We’ve found road trips in the U.S. a whole lot easier than foreign travel, because we just jump in the car and go. The bumps in the road, the missteps and snafus, both here and abroad, though frustrating, often make for good stories later—good blogging material!

I look forward to reading more about your future travel and literary adventures. It must be nice to finally have the time!🤗

It is definitely nice to wake up every morning and figure out what I'm going to do that day, or do nothing if that's what I feel like. My next trip is in July, an Alaskan cruise, and then a week in the Seattle and Portland areas after the cruise. I agree about just jumping in the car and going somewhere. Thanks for reading, Ruth!

Ahh, an Alaskan cruise—that’s definitely on my bucket list! Perfect to spend a week in Seattle and Portland afterwards. I also like the idea of doing nothing if you feel like it.🤗

Hi there, popping in to say that if either one of you ever visit Portland let me know and I can show you around. There’s a pretty excellent food pod scene here!

It's great to be an arm chair adventurer on your trips. It all sounds so exciting. Food in Sicily more to my taste. But the huckleberry ice cream sounds good. Love your blogs.

Thanks, Judy! I wouldn’t expect chicken-fried steak would turn up on your menu anytime soon. Sicily’s Mediterranean diet would be perfect!
