This is a wonderful round-up of your trip. I have never been to France (and doubt that I will ever get there) so it was extra nice to hear about your travels. The photos do make me a bit hungry though :)
Brilliant post Ruth, I absolutely loved seeing France through your eyes (can't lie, I'd been waiting for this since you announced that you were going to Paris!) ❤️
Wishing you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving 🙏
Merci, Sinù! I'm touched that my point of view on our Paris adventure was important enough for you to wait for it and that it didn't disappoint! Thanks also for the Thanksgiving wishes. I'd wish you the same, but I think this is a very American holiday and may have no parallel in Italy. Thanks again for your very kind words! It means a lot! ❤️
Ruth, beautiful piece to read and look at! Miss you - à bientôt (j'espère!) Carl and family are returning to Riverside for winter/spring, so visits to So. Cal are expected.
Divine, Ruth! I feel like I’ve been on vacation reading this and seeing these glorious photos. So true what you said - when you’re on vacation it feels like it will never end. Looking forward to Jeff’s photo walk and your piece on Avignon. Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁
Thanks, Jolene! So glad to have you along! It's always hard to come back, but I've got some cooking to do--and the next trip to dream about! Happy Thanksgiving! 🍂🥂
It sounds grand Ruth! I happen to like fruitcake and I also have been a bit baffled about the fuss over the Mona Lisa. I will check out the article you linked to. Thanks. I've never seen the Money with the turkeys. Happy Thanksgiving!
Glad to hear you like fruitcake, Vicki! Even though I didn't grow up with them, I enjoy making them for some reason and am a little baffled by the number of people who are always telling me they can't stand them. But I'll be trying once again soon! I continue to be curious about the Mona Lisa and will have to keep reading to see if I get a better handle on her popularity.
I'd never seen Monet's turkey painting either. Just seemed appropriate for the season.
Thrilled to see that French food culture hasn't vanished! When I first visited Paris on a school trip in the 70s, it was a revelation. But I had a very brief and disappointing visit about fifteen years ago. Like you, I was both relieved and disappointed to find most Parisians speaking English in response to my stumbling French. We found decent food, but not before experiencing (quel horreur!)a bad bakery. You have inspired me to have another go!i
French food culture is alive and well, but honestly you can get a bad meal in France as easily as anywhere else. It's kind of hard to make that clear in a piece in which you're focusing on the culinary highlights. I didn't run across a bad bakery, but I'm quite sure they exist. I do hope you get a chance to go back. France has got to be paradise for a historian, even for one whose specialty is British and American history! Happy Thanksgiving, Annette!

Thanks for reading, Marg! France is worth a visit, even if vicariously—and there’s always baking French sweets to transport you to a patisserie!
Yes indeed!
Ruth thank you for sharing your vacation experience, it’s just wonderful getting a glimpse of beautiful Paris and especially seeing people traveling.
Thanks, Maggie! So very glad you enjoyed my little slice of Paris! It was fun to see how happy people were to just be out and about once again!

Thanks, Susan! Happy Thanksgiving to you, Willy and the kids! Ce serait formidable de vous voir ici bientôt!❤️
Would you share the name of your hotel?
Champ de Du Mars
